There are numerous fabulous places to go with your dog - where both you and your dog will have a great time! There are many local woods, heaths, parks and beaches open to dogs all year round. And, they are welcome in most Suffolk pubs! (and some cafes too!)

For dog-walks in and around Saxmundham, there is an extensive network of Public Footpaths in the area.

There’s a small Park in the town itself, and for a nearby off-lead run there’s a Country Park just 10 mins walk from the Cottages. Carlton Country Park is spacious and offers a variety of terrain. The main park is grassed, and there is also wooded areas and Public Footpaths between fields beyond the Country Park.

Dogs are welcomed on Suffolk beaches all year round - just not allowed in the main bathing areas between 1st May and 30th September. The areas of beach which are accessible all year round are usually at either end of the town.

For example, at Southwold dogs are not allowed on the area of beach between Gun Hill and the Pier from May to September, but they are allowed on the beach from Gun Hill to the Harbour/River Blyth estuary and from the other side of the Pier going north.

PETS GO FREE!  There is no additional charge(s) for accommodating your dog(s).

We are very ‘dog-friendly’ - we have dogs ourselves!

Small, Toy or Miniature breeds which are clean and well-behaved ‘family pets’ are made very welcome. A guide is... no more than about 14 inches (35 cm) in height (to the shoulder) or 9-10 kg in weight, and no more lively than the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in the pictures.

The Holiday Cottages are Period properties and are not suitable for bigger or boisterous breeds of dogs. So, sorry but your dog cannot be accommodated if it is, for example, a Collie, Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Springer Spaniel or similar.  (Please ring to check before booking if you are not sure. Dogs have to be ‘Checked-In’ on Arrival.)

We do have a few obvious ‘dog rules’ too, such as no jumping around on the furniture or playing fetch with our cushions, no chewing door frames or being left alone at the cottage to howl, etc. (and, not using the Cottage towels to clean up wet or dirty dogs).

Because there is limited outside space at the Cottages, there is a ‘no dog-toileting on the property’ rule, but there’s plenty of green areas in the immediate vicinity for a dog’s first thing & last thing needs.
